About

My name is Calli Giroux. I am a visual artist currently working here in Alberta. I am in the final year of my degree at the University of Alberta, focusing on painting and printmaking.

My roots as an artist are in creating video, multimedia, and digital works. These digital processes laid the foundation for my practice, and although my work has shifted focus, I still regularly transfer these skills into my work today. My painting and multimedia projects focus on my views of the natural and digital world. As a proud member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, it is important for me to draw from my natural surroundings in my work. Whether through representation or commentary, this is something that motivates my practice. In contrast, the digital sphere is another space where I gather sources. Whether one focus or the other, the context of my work is from my own personal experiences.

The themes behind my print work are somewhat more isolated in contrast, as the focus is on my life as a Type One Diabetic. Although it is still an extension of my experiences, this work reflects on the mental and physical toll of the disease while commenting on my experiences within the medical world and the disabled community.

As my practice continues to grow across multiple mediums, my work will remain an extension of my lived experiences and personal perspectives.
